Stephen Hawking was a British scientist, professor and author who performed groundbreaking work in physics and cosmology, and whose books helped to make science accessible to everyone. Hawking”s big bang theory and black hole theory has turned the attention of the world.  At the age of 21, Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig”s disease, he lost his control over different parts of the body including arms, legs and voice and at the end of 2009 he totally became paralyzed. With all the challenges he still has over 40 successful years of a meaningful career.  He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

He is also a lifetime member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. In 2009, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
